Planar has entered the rental and staging market with its new Mantis Series, a lineup of indoor LED video walls engineered for rapid deployment in event environments. Available in 1.5, 1.9, and 2.6mm pixel pitches, the displays deliver up to 1,500 nits of brightness, refresh rates reaching 7,680Hz, and a 4,000:1 contrast ratio. The cabinets are designed for tool-free, one-handed installation and teardown — a response to direct customer feedback, according to CEO Sidney Rittenberg, who emphasized that the series targets venues and production crews seeking minimal training requirements and faster turnaround times.

The launch arrives during a period of significant structural change in the industry. In May, Swedish retail technology firm Vertiseit acquired Scala from StrappedForCash for approximately SEK 265 million (roughly $28 million) — a steep decline from the $50–60 million paid for the once-dominant software brand in 2016. The transaction has triggered widespread layoffs, with former Scala employees surfacing on professional networks, though Vertiseit has stated the brand will continue as a strategic software offering within its Dise division.

The Scala deal is part of a broader wave of consolidation reshaping the sector. Global service integrators such as Ricoh, Forté, Diversified, and AVI-SPL have steadily expanded through acquisitions and organic growth. At the manufacturer level, Chinese display giants TCL and Skyworth have announced joint ventures with Sony and Panasonic respectively, signaling a major B2B display market realignment expected from 2027 onward. Turkish manufacturer Vestel has exited branded B2B displays to focus on contract manufacturing, underscoring pressure on mid-tier vendors.

In the US, deal values have climbed. Creative Realities surpassed $100 million in group revenue after acquiring Cineplex Digital Media, cementing its position as a scaled North American integrator. Poppulo's purchase of Reach bridged enterprise communications with long-tail SMB software — a rare vertical consolidation play. Israeli developer Novisign similarly expanded by acquiring the US customer base of a West Coast integrator exiting software.

On the partnership front, PureLink and Clevertouch have announced a strategic collaboration to deliver validated AV solutions for collaboration, education, and digital signage. Selected PureLink products, including USB-C connectivity and signal management hardware, will be regularly tested against Clevertouch's interactive displays to ensure reliable interoperability. The companies frame the initiative as a response to growing installation complexity and a commitment to sustainable, long-term AV deployments.

Taken together, the product launches, consolidation moves, and integration partnerships underscore an industry in flux — where hardware innovation, corporate restructuring, and interoperability demands are converging to redefine the competitive landscape from rental staging to enterprise-grade installations.
