Bauer Celebrates Five Years Supporting The Wildlife Trust

Bauer Media Outdoor marks five years partnering with The Wildlife Trusts, citing £2m in donated advertising space and more than 350 Living Roofs on UK bus shelters, as reported by DailyDOOH.
Bauer Media Outdoor is marking five years of partnership with The Wildlife Trusts, a collaboration the company says has generated £2m in donated advertising space and more than 350 Living Roofs installed on bus shelters across the UK. The milestone was reported by DailyDOOH, the out-of-home trade site, alongside a longer record Bauer also cites: a decade of work with Trees for Cities that has helped plant and care for close to 8,000 urban trees and funded 16 Edible Playgrounds in schools across London, Newcastle, Sunderland and Glasgow.
The Wildlife Trusts point out that pollinators underpin food systems and that visible green spaces can support mental wellbeing and make neighbourhoods feel more liveable.
£2m In Media Space Across Adshel Live
The five-year mark is being marked with a dedicated Out of Home campaign running across Bauer Media Outdoor's Adshel Live network, through which the media owner is donating the £2m of media space to the charity. The donated inventory carries campaigns designed, in Bauer's words, to raise awareness of how people can encourage biodiversity in their own green spaces.
Louise Stubbings, Partnerships and Creative Director at Bauer Media Outdoor, says the partnership changed how her team looked at its own estate. "We know how important good public infrastructure is for our communities, but we didn't realise just how crucial travel corridors are for our bee population until we started partnering with The Wildlife Trusts five years ago," she said.
A cornerstone of the partnership is what Bauer calls Living Roofs: planted roofs on bus shelters that the company says give bees places to stop and rest along their journeys, and offer resting opportunities for small birds and urban wildlife. Bauer describes them as stepping-stones within nature recovery networks, linking larger green spaces in dense urban areas where space is limited.
Several councils — Barnet, Burnley and York — have introduced their first Living Roof shelters in partnership with BMO, with additional shelters planned and funded through advertising revenue. In Essex and Bournemouth, new Milestone shelters with Living Roofs are being deployed along key travel corridors.
In Derby, the Living Roofs helped Derby City Council and Bauer Media Outdoor secure a Bee's Needs Award, which acknowledged the city's efforts to support pollinators and urban biodiversity.
Thirzah McSherry, Director of Marketing, Development and Communications at The Wildlife Trusts, said the partnership shows "how both businesses and town centres can play a meaningful role in helping nature recover" — from raising awareness of the pressures facing nature to creating Living Roof habitats in towns and cities, which she argues proves public infrastructure can be part of the answer to the nature and climate crises.
