Transparent displays and strategic moves: The new face of digital out-of-home
Digital out-of-home media is entering a phase in which the screen itself is disappearing into the built environment. Three recent developments illustrate where the industry is heading. Daktronics has launched see-through LED window displays for retail stores, convenience stores and quick-service restaurants, replacing static window clings with digital messaging that preserves natural light and visibility. Meanwhile, Afterpay Arena in Sydney has completed what project partners describe as Australia's largest transparent LED installation — three displays suspended above the Grand Foyer spanning 84 square meters, designed to maintain sightlines while creating a digital focal point visible through the arena's glass façade. And in the software layer, Vertiseit has acquired Scala, one of the most recognized digital signage software brands, for approximately SEK 265 million, strengthening its global position within in-store experience management. Together, these three moves signal that the DOOH sector is moving beyond standalone screens toward architectural integration, while the industry consolidates around larger platform players.
